Florence Kafuko’s Journey

This story is about Florence Kafuko, a 70-year-old woman from Ntinkalu village in Mayuge District, whose life was transformed by a successful surgical intervention.
For over six years, Florence lived with a persistent and worsening wound. Despite her children’s efforts and expenses for treatment, the wound never improved. In fact, it got worse, developing a foul smell. This led to her children neglecting her, as they had spent so much money with no positive results.
Florence’s neighbor eventually convinced her to attend a surgical camp organized by Lamu Medical Centre, together with Interplast Germany at Lamu. Florence was initially hesitant, given the years of failed treatments. However, her neighbor’s insistence paid off. The doctors at the camp examined her wound and scheduled her for an operation.
Florence’s prayers for a successful surgery were answered. The operation was a success, and her wound finally healed. She shared her joy, stating, “I am the happiest woman! Thank you so much.” She can now even go to her garden.

The healing of her wound brought about a profound change in her family life. Her children, who had abandoned her due to the persistent and foul-smelling wound, now visit her regularly. Florence expressed her happiness at reconnecting with them, saying, “I am happy to see my children again. I had thought they would only come to bury me.”
